Pacenote v0.5.30
Pace follows the Mac you're using: with Pacenote on two Macs, it answers on the one in front of you and moves when you leave it for the other, and Todo is the same on both.
brew update && brew upgrade --cask pacenoteYour Macs
- Turn it on in Settings > Macs, on each Mac. Macs set up with the same Slack app find each other on your network by themselves; there is nothing to pair. macOS asks once whether Pacenote may look on your local network. For a Mac on another network, such as over Tailscale, Add by address. It stays off until you turn it on, so a Mac of its own never looks.
- Pace answers on the Mac you're using. One Mac at a time holds Pace's Slack connection. Lock the Mac, put it to sleep, close its lid or leave it for 5 minutes, use the other one, and Pace moves there. Using both keeps it where it is; Answer here moves it at once. A Mac out of reach is passed over, so the one awake answers.
- No mention missed or answered twice. A handover opens the new Mac's connection before the old one closes, and an answer under way finishes where it started.
- Todo is the same on both. Tasks, Done, Dismiss and Keep (one taken back included), the work log, what Write it up wrote and your areas are merged between the Macs as they change, the latest standing, with nothing to ask you. Todo says "collected 10:20 on MacBook Pro", and Collect now waits while the other Mac collects.
- Sessions stay where they run. A session on the other Mac says "On MacBook Pro" and offers Start here, a new session for the task on this Mac. Looks done judges a session on its own Mac.
- Only your Macs. They know each other by a key derived from the Slack app token they share: each proves it, and everything after is encrypted. A Mac with another Slack app, such as your company's Pace, never sees yours. Pacenote takes these connections only from your own networks, and there is no server in between.
- Where Pace answers. The status bar says "Answering here" or which Mac answers, and "Pace: Standing by" on the other.
